Fun Facts

The Liwa Desert is one of the most fascinating places in the UAE and is famous for its massive golden dunes, including the towering Moreeb Dune, one of the tallest sand dunes in the world. Located on the edge of the enormous Rub' al Khali, or Empty Quarter, Liwa offers breathtaking desert landscapes that often look like scenes from movies such as Dune. Despite being surrounded by endless sand, the area is home to beautiful oasis villages filled with date palm farms supported by underground water sources. Liwa is also deeply connected to Emirati history because it was the original home of the Al Nahyan family before they moved to Abu Dhabi. Today, the desert is known for adventure activities like dune bashing, camel racing, and the exciting Liwa International Festival, where drivers compete to climb steep dunes. At night, the desert becomes especially magical, with clear skies and almost no light pollution, making it one of the best places in the UAE for stargazing.
